Overview
What is a Hirose cable assembly?
Hirose Electric, a Japanese connector maker, is best known for small, precise board-to-board, flexible printed circuit and micro connectors. In a Hirose cable assembly, wire or cable is terminated in its cable-side families, which include DF series wire-to-board connectors such as DF13 and DF11, U.FL micro coaxial connectors for antenna leads, and HR10 push-pull circular connectors for instruments and cameras.
- Fine-pitch DF wire-to-board series
- U.FL micro coax for antennas
- HR10 push-pull circular connectors
- Precise terminations on very fine wire
Features
Features of Hirose assemblies
Hirose connectors pack secure, precise connections into very little space. These are the traits we plan around when building with them.
-
Fine-pitch wire-to-board
DF series housings fit many circuits into a narrow footprint, with locking designs that vary by series and keep plugs seated in their headers.
-
Micro coaxial connections
U.FL connectors snap onto tiny surface-mount receptacles, linking wireless modules to antennas with thin coax in places a larger RF connector cannot reach.
-
Push-pull circular locking
HR10 connectors lock when pushed home and release only when the outer sleeve is pulled, so tugging the cable will not uncouple them.
-
Matched to fine wire
Small terminals are designed for thin conductors, so wire gauge, insulation diameter and strip length must sit within each series' limits.
Capabilities
Hirose assembly capabilities
Small contacts leave little margin for error, so every step, from stripping to inspection, is set up for fine wire and fine pitch.
Fine-wire stripping
Thin conductors stripped to tight length tolerances without nicking strands, so each terminal grips the full conductor.
Precision crimping
DF series terminals crimped with tooling matched to each series and wire size, then checked against the crimp dimensions for that terminal.
Micro coax termination
U.FL plugs terminated onto thin coaxial cable, with center conductor and shield prepared to the dimensions the connector requires.
Push-pull circular builds
HR10 contacts terminated as each connector version specifies, then assembled into the shell with the cable clamp gripping the jacket.
Genuine Hirose components
Genuine Hirose connectors and terminals, sourced through our supply network, with approved equivalents used only where your drawing allows.
Inspection and testing
Magnified visual inspection of crimps and latches, with continuity and pin-order checks run to the test plan agreed in your quote.

Applications
Where Hirose assemblies are used
Hirose connectors suit products that are small, densely packed or both, from handheld scanners to broadcast cameras.
Wireless devices
U.FL antenna leads connecting Wi-Fi, cellular and GPS modules to internal or panel antennas.
Cameras and vision
HR10 power, trigger and I/O cables for broadcast and machine vision cameras.
Medical equipment
Wire-to-board connections inside portable ultrasound units, patient monitors and other compact clinical equipment.
Test instruments
Push-pull and fine-pitch cabling for portable instruments, probes and data loggers.
Motion control
Compact links inside servo drives, motion controllers and sensors, plus ix Industrial Ethernet cables.
Portable electronics
Display, camera and battery links inside tablets, handheld terminals and rugged mobile computers.
Quality
Quality built into every connection
Quality is designed into the process rather than inspected in at the end. Every program follows the same four steps, in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment.
Agree the specification
We review your drawing, materials and acceptance criteria with you before anything is built.
Prove the first article
A prototype or first article confirms fit, form and function before production starts.
Build to documented processes
Production follows documented work instructions at every step, from cutting to final assembly.
Test before it ships
Every order is tested against the plan agreed in your quote before it leaves the factory.
FAQ
Questions buyers ask
Can't find your answer? Send us your drawing and questions, and our engineers will come back to you.
Which Hirose connector series can you build cable assemblies with?
We build with Hirose's cable-side families, including DF series wire-to-board connectors such as DF13 and DF11, U.FL micro coaxial connectors, HR10 push-pull circulars and ix Industrial Ethernet connectors. Send the series and part numbers from your drawing, and we will confirm the matching housings, terminals and wire.
Are U.FL connectors suitable for repeated plugging and unplugging?
Generally not. U.FL connectors are meant to be mated during assembly and occasional service, are rated for a limited number of mating cycles, and should be unplugged with a suitable extraction tool. Where a connection is plugged often, our engineers can suggest a more durable connector for that point.
Can you crimp terminals for very fine-pitch Hirose connectors?
Yes. Fine-pitch DF series terminals take thin wire, so we confirm the wire gauge, insulation diameter and strip length against each series' requirements before building. Crimps are checked against the terminal's specified dimensions, and samples are inspected closely before production continues.
How are Hirose cable assemblies tested?
Testing follows the plan agreed in your quote. For Hirose assemblies it typically covers continuity and pin order, crimp checks, latch engagement and, for micro coax leads, center-to-shield isolation, along with visual inspection against your drawing.
