Overview

What is an ITT Cannon assembly?

An ITT Cannon cable assembly is cable terminated in connectors from ITT Cannon, the brand that introduced the D-subminiature connector. Its range includes D-sub and Micro-D rectangular connectors, 38999-style circular connectors and other rugged circulars, many made to military specifications. Removable crimp contacts, sealing grommets and threaded or bayonet coupling make them a long-standing choice for aerospace, defense, rail and industrial equipment.

  • D-sub, Micro-D and circular styles
  • Removable crimp contacts
  • Threaded or bayonet coupling
  • Backshells for strain relief and shielding

Features

Built for vibration, shock and weather

Rugged connectors earn their reliability in the details: how contacts are retained, how the shell couples and seals, and how the cable is supported behind it.

  • Removable crimp contacts

Contacts are crimped to each wire, inserted from the rear and held by retention clips, so one circuit can be reworked without replacing the connector.

  • Coupling and keying

Threaded and bayonet coupling rings draw the halves fully together and resist loosening under vibration, while keyways stop mismatched plugs from mating.

  • Environmental sealing

On sealed versions, rear grommets seal around each wire and interfacial seals close the mating face, keeping moisture and contaminants away from the contacts.

  • Backshells and shielding

Backshells clamp the cable, support the wires behind the connector and terminate the shield braid all the way around the shell, helping keep out interference.

Capabilities

Our ITT Cannon assembly capabilities

Rugged connectors only perform as well as the work behind them. Each step is carried out in our own factories and checked against your drawing.

Crimping with positioners

Contacts crimped with tools and positioners matched to each contact type and size, then checked against your crimp requirements.

Contact insertion

Each contact inserted with the correct tool until it locks, checked for retention, with unused cavities filled by sealing plugs where required.

Backshell fitting

Backshells and strain reliefs fitted and torqued to your drawing, with cable shields terminated to the backshell.

Protective jacketing

Heat-shrink boots, braided sleeving and jacketing applied to suit the abrasion, fluids and temperatures the assembly will face.

Connector and contact sourcing

Genuine ITT Cannon connectors, contacts and backshells sourced through our supply network, with approved equivalents only where your drawing allows.

Test and inspection

Continuity, insulation resistance and any further electrical or mechanical tests set out in the plan agreed in your quote.

Why Pecko

Why OEMs choose Pecko

A manufacturing partner should make your program simpler. These are the reasons customers bring their assemblies to Pecko, and keep them here.

  • Expertise and experience

Wire harness and cable assembly work since 1981, across 20 industries and 25,000+ projects.

  • Quick turnarounds

Clear quotes, confirmed schedules and regular updates, from the first prototype to every production release.

  • High flexibility

Engineering changes, revisions and schedule shifts handled without starting your program over.

  • Cost-effectiveness

Design-for-manufacture advice, global sourcing and efficient processes keep your unit cost down.

  • Small and large volumes

From a handful of prototypes to high-volume production, with capacity across three factories.

  • Caring customer service

A team that answers technical questions quickly and follows your program from quote to delivery.

Applications

Where ITT Cannon assemblies are used

ITT Cannon connectors are specified where a failed connection is costly and equipment must keep working through vibration, shock and weather.

  • Aerospace

Avionics boxes, cabin systems and ground support equipment where weight and vibration matter.

  • Defense

Vehicle, communications and field equipment cables built to the specification your program sets.

  • Rail and transit

Rolling-stock equipment and signaling connections facing constant vibration, dust and weather.

  • Energy

Instrument and control cabling for oil, gas and power generation equipment on harsh sites.

  • Industrial machinery

Motor, sensor and control connections on machines that see shock, coolant and frequent servicing.

  • Test equipment

D-sub and circular interface cables for test stations, data acquisition and ground test rigs.

Quality

Quality built into every connection

Quality is designed into the process rather than inspected in at the end. Every program follows the same four steps, in an ISO-certified manufacturing environment.

  1. Agree the specification

We review your drawing, materials and acceptance criteria with you before anything is built.

  2. Prove the first article

A prototype or first article confirms fit, form and function before production starts.

  3. Build to documented processes

Production follows documented work instructions at every step, from cutting to final assembly.

  4. Test before it ships

Every order is tested against the plan agreed in your quote before it leaves the factory.

FAQ

Questions buyers ask

Can't find your answer? Send us your drawing and questions, and our engineers will come back to you.

Which ITT Cannon connector types can you build with?

We build with ITT Cannon D-subminiature and Micro-D connectors, 38999-style circular connectors and other circular and rectangular series named on your drawing. Send the full connector part numbers, including contact and backshell callouts, and our engineers will confirm the parts and tooling needed.

Can you build assemblies to military or aerospace specifications?

Tell us the specifications your assembly must meet, including wire types, materials, marking and testing, and we will specify components and build to them. Our engineers review the drawing and specification with you before quoting, and every order is tested to the plan agreed in your quote.

Do you supply backshells and accessories with the assembly?

Yes. Backshells, strain reliefs, boots, dust caps and sealing plugs can all be supplied and fitted as part of the assembly. If your drawing names specific accessories, we use them. If not, our engineers can suggest options for strain relief, shielding and sealing.

How are ITT Cannon cable assemblies tested?

Testing follows the plan agreed in your quote. Typical checks include continuity and pin-to-pin mapping, insulation resistance between circuits and to the shell, contact retention, coupling and backshell checks, and visual inspection against your drawing, all completed before shipment.
